Red Egg

I don't know about other cultures

But in the Chinese culture

The red egg is very significant

Now, in truth, I do not know of any breed of chickens that lay eggs as red as blood

And I don't think any researcher nor any venture capitalist would invest to see such a reality

The ingenious way is the obvious way

Boil the egg and dye it red

While red has become a colour easily identified with China or Japan

The special meaning imbued to the red egg is not national nor political in nature

Rather the red egg is evoked to celebrate birthdays

Red eggs mean as much or even more than birthday cakes

For the Chinese, that is

And today is one such day

Special to me and my wife in every wonderful way

You see, my son was born

So, blessed birthday to you my son

And enjoy the red egg

Just as I will enjoy mine
