Bridge On The River Kwai
This is a trip down memory lane. There was a war movie I watched in my primary school years called "The Bridge On The River Kwai".
The movie and the theme song burned themselves into my psyche. Even as I type, some of the movie scenes are conjured up from the depths of my very cells. And, especially the very catchy, whistling tune! It was a movie made in 1957 (I googled that up!), and I was born 10 years later, and sat in my school hall soaking it in probably when I was around 10 years old. Perfect 10!
Well, I was going through some of my photos and came across this. It's dated 2006. Yes, that's some time ago. It's the actual location, in Kanchanaburi, Thailand. Beautiful, serene place, and yet in World War 2, atrocities were committed there. I won't bother you with the details. It's all on Google.
Here's another picture.
And another!
Reminds me of the Simon & Garfunkel song, "Bridge Over Trouble Waters".
To save you the trouble (no pun intended) of looking up the internet, I've pasted the lyrics below. I'm doing it for myself too, so don't feel bad!
When you're weary / Feeling small / When tears are in your eyes / I will dry them all
I'm on your side / When times get rough / And friends just can't be found
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will lay me down
When you're down and out / When you're on the street / When evening falls so hard / I will comfort you
I'll take your part / When darkness comes / And pain is all around
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will lay me down
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will lay me down
Sail on Silver Girl, / Sail on by / Your time has come to shine / All your dreams are on their way
See how they shine / If you need a friend / I'm sailing right behind
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will ease your mind
Like a bridge over troubled water / I will ease your mind
