What're You Looking At?

But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look at his appearance or at his physical stature, because I have refused him. For the Lord does not see as man sees; for man looks at the outward appearance, but theLord looks at the heart.” 1 Samuel 16:7

Looks can be impressive and deceptive, even for a seasoned prophet like Samuel. 

Appearance is often not what things really appear to be! The world tends to focus excessively over appearances - just look at all the branded fashion wear. The world values looks. Looks matter. Looks are multi-billion dollar industries!

But God looks not at the outward but the inward. In God's valuation, the heart matters most. We need to guard against making the same kind of assessment that Samuel did. What God looks at is the heart.
