Walking In the Rain
Yes, today's blog entry is inspired from a Neil Sedaka's song, Laughter in the Rain.
If this doesn't ring a bell, you're too young!
I was driving home just now, and the rain was pouring buckets, blurring the landscape into a whitish veil. That's when memory lane kicks in, and Neil's song played on the turntable of my mind. It's a classic love song. Love it!
So, that got me to thinking, when was the last time you intentionally took a slow walk in the rain, soaking it in, and generally, having an enjoyable time! So, it doesn't apply if you are making a mad dash from shelter to shelter. Neither does, being caught out in the rain count. I said, intentionally. Purposely.
There's the very idea of relishing a walk in the rain. Why walk in the rain you might ask? Well, why not? Why not step out into the rain, just to bask in a celebration of life designed by nature?
Why not stand, in an ocean of raindrops, millions of liquid crystalline pearls, and just enjoy the experience? Why not stand there, bar any lightning strikes of course, and thank God for being alive?
I have to be honest here. I've never done it on purpose. The times when I was drenched, were unintended, un-welcomed and unanticipated.
There were countless times, in my schooling days, I'd be cycling home under the torrential rain, drenched not by rain, but by the sweat and steam beneath my rain coat. Most importantly, my school bag and its contents were dry.
Then there were days when I went out for a run, despite the looming rainclouds, believing I could beat the rain and complete my 5K run before the heavens unloaded their day's mission. You win some, you drench some. In any case, that's running in the rain, a pace much quicker than walking.
Outside, the rain has slowed, as if it's almost spent.
And as I wind up my blog entry for today, I'm wondering if I should change my gear and go for a quiet, after the rain kind of run! That would be rather soothing I think - a moistness in the air, and everything looking fresher and brighter. It would also be rather fun, to run and avoid puddles here and there.
A special note to watch out for cars passing those puddles as I run by.
